Burton’s Biscuits, Pukka Pies and the Tan Y Castell bakery all scooped success at The New Product Awards 2014, run by The Grocer.
Best new bakery product was deemed the Bara Brith cake, by the Pembrokeshire-based Tan Y Castell bakery.
Maryland Gooey’s from Burton’s Biscuits swiped the award for best new biscuit product, while the Pukka Pies’ Large Chicken and Gravy Pies took home the award for best new pizza and pastry products.
Founder of Tan Y Castell bakery Paul Mear said: “We were so happy to have been shortlisted, but to win is just fantastic, both for Tan Y Castell and its growing range of innovative, inspiring products and for the Welsh food industry too, just going to show that Bara Brith is for everyone, not just the Welsh!”
Bara Brith translates as ‘speckled bread’ and is baked by hand to a Pembrokeshire recipe with fruit, tea, spices and marmalade.
The cake is low in fat and available from a wide range of retailers across Wales from the factory shop in Narberth.
Judges of the awards ceremony had decided on the winners from 200 branded entries.
