Cornish fudge producer, The Buttermilk Confectionery Co, has won the Best of Confectionery title in the 2014 Taste of the West Awards.

The producer’s chocolate fudge product was described as ‘moreish’ by the judges, and is handmade in its factory in Wadebridge.

Tracy McDonnell Goad, who runs the business with her husband David, said: “The chocolate fudge is part of our new luxury range which we are launching this month. All four varieties have a high butter content which means they are beautifully rich and indulgent.

“It’s a real honour to have done so well at this year’s awards. The chocolate fudge also earned a Gold award, while our ginger, vanilla and assorted fudge won Silver and our luxury Irish Cream was awarded Bronze.”

Chief executive of Taste of the West John Sheaves said: “Cornwall produces food and drink of an exceptionally high quality and continues to thrive in the Taste of the West Awards.

“The standard of entries from all the producers and hospitality and retail outlets from across the region has been exceptional and certainly much higher than in previous years.”

Wadebridge-based firm The Buttermilk Confectionery Co aims to move its production to new premises in Bodmin, north Cornwall by January 2015. This is part of a £500,000 investment, which should double its production size.
