The Cherrytree Bakery is expecting record sales of its traditional Parkin Cake.

Supplying 160,000 units to 113 Asda stores across Yorkshire and the north west, the bakery is expecting to sell out by Bonfire Night.

The Burnley-based bakery first supplied Parkin to the supermarket in 2011, with the popularity of the product seeing it become Asda’s own-brand Chosen by You Parkin supplier in 2012.

Commenting on the partnership, Gary Entwistle, managing director of Cherrytree Bakery, said: “The business has grown fivefold over the last seven years and we continue to secure new orders, thanks to our attention to quality and the finer touches of baking.

“As experienced through our own partnership, Asda has a genuine interest in locally sourced regional products and we have greatly benefited from this approach as a result.”

Founded in 1984, the business has grown into a producer of several different varieties of cakes, buns, loaves and muffins. It first started supplying products to Asda in 1997, and now employs more than 90 members of staff at its bakery manufacturing facility.

The bakery is also the national supplier of Chorley Cakes, which is a national own-brand line for the supermarket chain, stocked in stores across the UK.

Tim Carter, Asda’s local sourcing team buyer, added: “Asda supports local suppliers and we are always keen to give our customers the locally sourced products they want in their local stores. Cherrytree Bakery is an independent business that prides itself in making quality products, such as traditional Lancashire Parkin Cake – and it wouldn’t be Bonfire Night without this sticky treat.”
