Two bakers from Padstow’s Chough Bakery have taken part in the Hakata British Fair, Japan.
The Chough Bakery was approached at the start of the year by chef Martin Chiffers to export 4,500 cheese and onion pasties, and make a further 12,000 during the 11-day show.
The event is held each year over two sites in Japan, Fukuoka and Osaka, featuring British high tea and fish and chips to suit the ‘Traditional English’ theme.
Bakery manager Ryan Smedley and baker Shaun Clayton flew over 5,000 miles to produce the pasties in front of thousands of Japanese visitors who attended the show. In total 17,000 pasties were produced and sold, due to huge demand.
