Forget breakfast at Tiffany’s, it’s all about afternoon tea as Europe’s first Tiffany Blue Box Café is due to open in Harrods, London this February.
Located on the lower ground floor of the Knightsbridge store, the café’s interior décor mirrors that found in the Blue Box Café in the Tiffany flagship store on New York’s Fifth Avenue. Tiffany’s iconic shade of blue features throughout the café, while guests can dine surrounded by jewels.
The menu is described as a “refined and playful take on contemporary cuisine”, with set breakfast, afternoon tea and dinner menus available.
Items offered include an all-butter croissant with a choice of truffle eggs Florentine, smoked salmon and caviar for breakfast; chocolate cake with a golden Tiffany’s signature; and The Blue Box Celebration Cake. The afternoon tea, meanwhile, includes finger sandwiches with a “luxury twist”, freshly-baked scones and a selection of patisserie inspired by Tiffany’s heritage.
“I had the pleasure of creating the concepts we wanted to bring to life within the menu. We took steering from what Tiffany’s had originally done in New York, used that as a starting point for our development and had the pleasure of emulating our own ideas onto that canvas,” said Markus Bohr, executive head pastry chef at Harrods.
“The Big Apple is my absolute favourite item on the menu. We started out with the idea of a homage to the most eponymous of American classics, the apple pie. I had an epiphany of creating a red apple and building it from the inside out, with all the parts that ordinarily comprise an apple pie, and I am so proud that we were able to bring it to life.”
Andy Cook, executive head chef at Harrods, added that the menu showcased the skillset of talented chefs within the business as everything is made in-house.
“One item that brings an interesting and playful twist to a classic dish is our savoury Parmesan Madeleine, which is served warm alongside a serving of sour cream disguised in a caviar tin,” he said.
Cook also highlighted the twist on the classic New York salmon bagel. Harrods’ version features a toasted bagel served with Faroe Island cured and smoked salmon, cream cheese, tomato, cucumber, grated lemon zest, freshly picked dill with thinly sliced onion.
