Glasgow-based bakery Cake has signed a deal with Asda to supply products in store.
The agreement will see the bakery, founded two years ago, supply peppermint, caramel and Belgian chocolate fingers, puff candy crunches, chocolate crispy squares and white chocolate raspberry fingers.
Headed by Sam and Barbara Henderson, the contract is believed to be worth £150,000, includes 48 Asda superstores across Scotland. Products will be sold in packs of three or five, and between 19-31 October, will cost £1.00 a pack (usually £1.40) as part of a promotion.
The independent bakery met Asda at a ‘Meet The Buyer’ event in Dundee, which instigated the partnership.
Commenting on the deal, Sam Henderson said: “Asda is the first major retailer that we’ve dealt with. We met them at the ‘Meet The Buyer’ event and the loved the products. They’ve been really helpful and friendly, and the products launched in store at the beginning of September. I’m delighted with it.”
According to Henderson, the deal is on-going and he hopes to expand over the border should the products continue to sell in store. “It’s still early days, but so far the experience has been very good,” he added.
