A new study has claimed lemon drizzle is Britain’s favourite cake flavour.
Research by Protein World concluded that lemon drizzle was favourite, receiving 40% of the vote, followed by chocolate fudge cake with 38%, and then carrot cake with 37%.
Chocolate brownie came in fourth place, leaving the traditional Victoria sponge trailing in fifth.
British classics such as fruit cake, coffee & walnut, and date & walnut cake also made the top 20.
The survey of 2,000 Brits revealed the public enjoyed a slice of cake on average three times a week, with 77% agreeing that there was not much that couldn’t be sorted with a cup of tea and slice of cake.
It found that the typical time of day to enjoy cake was 3pm and that Brits’ favourite cake-eating location was in a coffee shop with friends.
The study also revealed that, inspired by shows such as The Great British Bake Off, 68% of Brits enjoyed baking cakes themselves.
