Earth & Wheat has launched a Christmas Feast Rescued Box featuring bakery goods, vegetables and fruits ‘rescued’ from food waste.

The wonky bread subscription service has expanded the contents of the box compared to last year’s with the addition of two bread varieties. Each 6.5kg box also includes Brussels sprouts, potatoes, parsnips, carrots, broccoli, red cabbage, onions, garlic, rosemary, oranges and apples.

All items would have otherwise been thrown away due to their odd shape or size, or because of oversupply. Boxes are priced at £18.99 and are available for pre-order now till 20 December with next day delivery.

Once again, Earth & Wheat has pledged to donate meals to UK food charities to help those most in need during the festive period. Donations will be made in the customer’s name via Fareshare, the UK’s largest food waste redistribution charity.

“We’re delighted to be launching our Earth & Wheat Christmas Feast Rescued Box and we believe it is the perfect way to spread holiday cheer while making a positive impact for the environment,” said Earth & Wheat founder James Eid.

The foodtech start-up, which won Sustainability Initiative of the Year at the 2023 Baking Industry Awards, recently joined The King’s Coronation Food Project, donating a total of 2,894 meals to FareShare.

Earth & Wheat has been selling boxes of wonky bread since March 2021. These are comprised of baked goods such as pancakes, tortilla wraps and flatbreads rescued from food waste at bakeries including Eid’s own family’s business – Signature Flatbreads in Hertfordshire, which triumphed in the Bakery Manufacturer of the Year category at last month’s Baking Industry Awards.

Earth & Wheat subsequently began reaching out to farmers across the UK to collect wonky or surplus fruit and vegetables, and has so far saved more than 500 tonnes of food from going to landfill.
