Thai pork, lemongrass and coconut has been voted the winning pie flavour combination in a competition organised by the Pork Farms brand.
Pork Farms, which is part of the Addo Food Group, gave members of the public the chance to suggest their dream pork pie flavour in a two-month online and social media competition called ’Your Pie, Your Way’.
A shortlist of five entries was drawn up from more than 100 submissions, and the ideas put to a social media and online vote.
“The competition really engaged the public and surpassed our expectations in terms of its impact and the wealth of data it has provided on the taste preferences of our customers,” said Michael Holton, brand marketing manager for Pork Farms and Wall’s Pastry.
“Our chefs have been amazed by the quality and diversity of the entries.”
The winner of the public vote was a Thai pork, lemongrass and coconut pie suggested by Claire Tunnard. As part of the winner’s prize, the new flavour was presented exclusively to Tunnard at the Robin Hood Game & Country Show in Newark last weekend.
“The competition attracted high levels of public interest and gave us fascinating insights into their taste, texture and trend preferences,” said Pork Farms head chef Brian Poulson. “By listening to our customers, we stay ahead of the competition and capitalise on both our brand heritage and reputation for innovation."
