Wenzel’s the Bakers has revealed ambitions to expand to 100 stores in the next few years.
The business, which has submitted an application to open its 42nd UK store in Watford, North London, has expanded rapidly. It has almost doubled its number of outlets over the past three years, having operated 26 stores in February 2013.
Wenzel’s has employed more than 500 members of staff as a result of its expansion, CEO Peter Wenzel told British Baker.
He added that Wenzel’s had received requests for it to open a site in Watford high street.
“We feel that it is a good site and I feel the expansion shows we are an extremely good bakery,” he said. “We would liven up the high street.”
Wenzel described his business, which was established in 1975, as “the future company of the high streets”.
Watford Borough Council is currently considering the application.
