Flavoured Sourdough category champion Dark Chocolate Malt & Orange loaf being judged

A Thai-inspired focaccia, Beetroot Multiseed Sourdough, and Miso & Sesame Loaf are among the medallists at Britain’s Best Loaf 2025.

The competition, sponsored by ADM Milling, Brook Food & Bakery Equipment, L&M Parnaby, Matthews Cotswold Flour, and Rademaker, took place at the NEC Birmingham on Tuesday 8 April. Here a panel of esteemed judges, including last year’s winner, poked, prodded, sniffed, and tasted nearly 200 loaves to find the best in the nation.

Kuma-San Bakehouse from Matlock triumphed for the second time in three years with a Lemon & Earl Grey Brioche Loaf while a Dark Chocolate Malt & Orange Sourdough, cheese & potato-topped Focaccia, and Malted Seed Sourdough were among the category winners.

With a record number of loaves entered in 2025, Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals were also introduced to the competition.

“The passion and talent from bakers across the nation, as showcased by the entries at Britain’s Best Loaf 2025, was second to none. I’m a big believer in giving people the recognition they deserve so am thrilled to celebrate even more incredible loaves by awarding medals for the first time this year,” said British Baker editor Amy North. “This allows us to recognise and reward the efforts of the brilliant bakers who are serving communities across the country with their daily bread.”
