Ruby chocolate Kitkat unveiled by Nestlé

Kitkat has become the world’s first brand to use Barry Callebaut’s new ruby chocolate – but the treat’s not yet available in the UK.

Rolling out tomorrow (19 January), the ‘Kitkat Chocolatory Sublime Ruby’ will be available across stores in Japan and South Korea, as well as online.

Barry Callebaut revealed the fourth type of chocolate, Ruby, which is made from the ruby cocoa bean in September 2017.

Barry Callebaut CEO Antoine de-Saint Affrique, said Nestlé was quick to spot the trend and introduce a Ruby chocolate version of Kitkat, which he believed would entice consumers across Asia and beyond.

Japan is known for its innovative products, with more than 350 KitKat 'Made in Japan' products available in a variety of flavours.

Nestlé UK said it would be keeping a close eye on how the NPD performs before deciding whether to launch it in the UK.

“It is very exciting that KitKat will be the first brand in the world to use this new ruby chocolate,” a Nestlé UK spokesperson told British Baker. “It will be exclusive to Japan for now, but we will be keeping a close eye on how the launch goes and looking at options for other formats and other markets in the future.”

Nestlé added the launch of breakthrough innovation, such as the Kitkat Chocolatory Sublime Ruby, underlined its commitment to growing its international confectionery brands around the world.
