Warburtons has launched a ’Learn for Life Centre’ at its Stockton bakery in Teesside to encourage employees to continue with learning and education.

Warburtons teamed up with the Bakers Food and Allied Workers Union (BFAWU) to launch the project, with the BFAWU donating around £3,000. It will enable 180 staff from all departments to better their skills and knowledge in IT, numeracy, literacy and health and safety. The centre will be equipped with computers with a full range of software, and internet access.

"Businesses are becoming increasingly aware that a lifelong learning and development culture is essential to the successful future of industry," said Stockton’s deputy mayor, councillor Paul Kirton, who opened the centre.

l Warburtons opened its new 20,000sq ft distribution depot at the Eurocentral Business Park in Glasgow this week. It will allow the firm to expand its geographical reach in Scotland.
