Plans are well advanced for Farmhouse Breakfast Week 2008 from 20-26 January when farmers, producers and retailers are encouraged to celebrate the importance of a good breakfast.

Rebecca Geraghty, assistant director of crop marketing at the Home-Grown Cereals Authority (HGCA), which is organising the event, said: "Farmhouse Breakfast Week is an excellent opportunity for the food chain to work together to reinforce positive messages about the nutritional benefits of breakfast and the celebration of UK regional food excellence."

Companies and organisations in all links of the food chain are being encouraged to hold events across the country. These could include running a competition to find the best local producer of breakfast products, organising community breakfasts or sporting initiatives at a school breakfast club or local business.
