Worsbrough Mill, a 17th century working mill, has withdrawn packs of flour, bran, semolina and bread mix due to incorrect allergen information.
The products failed to declare the presence of gluten from wheat or barley, which the Food Standards Authority said presented “a possible health risk for anyone with a relevant allergy or intolerance”.
The mill also withdrew several rye and oat products due to misleading allergen information incorrectly placed in their ingredients lists.
Worsbrough Mill said: “Due to labelling issues, the organic range of flours produced at Worsbrough Mill has temporarily been taken off sale. There are no issues with the produce. However, owing to a change in legislation the labels now need to be updated. New labels will now highlight all allergens included in the products.
“The Mill is endeavouring to resolve this issue as quickly as possible to ensure goods are back on the shelves as soon as possible.”
Worsbrough Mill is part of the Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council-run Barnsley Museums. Its organic flours are sold through the shops at all Barnsley Museum properties except the Cooper Gallery.
The news follows a similar problem with allergen labelling for chilled dough producer Mo’s Cookie Dough.
