A new online bread supplier - Bread Du Jour - is to launch at the Speciality & Fine Food Fair, due to be held in Olympia, London on 8-10 September.
The launch collection includes artisan-style breads, each with a 14-day shelf life.
These include Sourdough Country Loaf, Artisan Rustic Brown Loaf, Stonebaked Village Bread, Artisan Stonebaked Crusty Boule, Sourdough Dark Bread, 100% Rye Loaf (wheat free), Stonebaked Garlic Loaf and an Oat and Honey Bread.
As the bread can be baked in minutes after being removed from its packaging, retailers and foodservice operators can respond to orders immediately, claimed the firm.
The artisan bakehouse crafts the breads by slowly mixing ingredients with a mature sourdough for extra flavour. Dough is cut and moulded to the correct sizes, and then rested in traditional banneton baskets, allowing the dough to develop. Once the dough is ready, the craft bakers hand-cut, dust with flour and individually set each dough on the stone sole of the oven and bake.
Kevin Bennett, director of Bread Du Jour, said: “Bread is always a challenge. It is essential, but can be costly in waste and also take up valuable freezer space. We hope we have met these challenges for the independent specialist retail and foodservice operators, with ease of purchasing and longer ambient life.
“After an encouraging initial reaction at the two shows this spring - confirming that there was a real need for this kind of quality and service within the market, we are officially launching at Speciality & Fine Food Fair with an interesting launch range.”
He added: “We hope that following this we will be filling a gap in the market for top-quality artisan-style bake-off bread, available direct to customers throughout the UK via our website.”
