Northamptonshire-based Central Foods is launching a gluten-free wrap for foodservice operators.
The frozen food distributorhas created a soft and flexible Katerbakerwrap, which it said would make it easy for foodservice operators to use.
High in fibre, the 10.5” wrap is suitable for vegans, vegetarians and coeliacs. Each weighs 55g and has a defrosted shelf life of two days.
“The demand for gluten-free food continues to grow and we are really pleased to offer this product to our foodservice customers to help them cater for an increasing number of consumers who have dietary requirements,” said Gordon Lauder, managing director of Central Foods.
A variety of different flours were used in the wrap, including: wholegrain flours (sorghum, cornflour, buckwheat, millet, teff and rice flours), as well as chickpea flour.
“Being soft and flexible, this product has been developed to overcome the issues of splitting during preparation, which has sometimes been a challenge in the past with gluten-free wraps,” added Lauder.
Central Foods supplies more than 400 different lines into foodservice, including vegetarian and free-from items, baked goods and desserts. It currently sells to more than 240 wholesalers.
