Roberts Bakery is looking to woo cocktail fans with the launch of a new take on the traditional teacake.

The Espresso Martini Fun Buns, which have launched into One Stop stores, contain sultanas, currants, natural coffee liqueur extract and vodka.

But no-one can get drunk off them, said Roberts, as the alcohol content is so low that no warning is needed, and no ID is required to buy them.

The limited-edition buns will be available until March next year at £1.39 for a four-pack. Each contain 179 calories, is low in fat and free from artificial colours. They are also suitable for vegetarians and for freezing.

“The popularity of the espresso martini comes from our coffee culture and love of cocktails when we go out,” said Roberts’ innovation director Alison Ordonez. “These sweet coffee and vodka-based flavours lend themselves perfectly to teacakes.’’

Roberts has previously sold an alcohol-inspired product in the shape of four-packs of Gin & Tonic Fun Buns that rolled out as part of a major revamp of the brand two years ago.
