Samworth Brothers-owned pastry brand Ginsters has teamed up with Cornish Michelin-starred chef Chris Eden to create the Mexican Chilli Beef savoury slice.

Available in Tesco stores nationwide from 6 November for £1.70, the slice is a fusion of Mexican and South American flavours including Mexican ancho chilli and smoked paprika.

Ginsters said the launch was part of its mission to develop products reflecting the latest food trends with a Cornish twist.

Eden was inspired following a visit to a Cornish tin mine where he heard stories of miners who emigrated to Mexico in the 1800s to mine for silver. Eden, who achieved a Michelin star in Cornwall in 2011, has worked alongside Ginsters’ team of development chefs to create the Mexican slice and will be working on further developments for the brand.

Kieran Hemsworth, managing director at Ginsters, said the business and Eden shared the same values and passion.

“Chris creates a small number of dishes in his fine dining restaurant every day, and we bake millions of savoury pastry products every week in our bakery in Cornwall, but we are equally as passionate about crafting our recipes,” said Hemsworth.

“Chris, working alongside our team of highly skilled development chefs, is helping to craft new flavours and tastes reflecting the latest food trends.”
