Lotus Bakeries has recalled selected batches of its Biscoff Crunchy Biscuit Spreads as they may contain small pieces of metal.
Lotus Bakeries pulled the products after being informed by the co-manufacturer that, during a certain period, its metal detection was not adjusted for sufficient precision.
The product is being removed from shelves at major retailers such as Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda, Morrisons and Waitrose as it could represent a safety risk to consumers.
Packs of Lotus Biscoff Crunchy Biscuit Spread (380g) with the following batch codes and ’best before’ dates should be returned to its point of sale:
- 7005109 – 05/02/2018
- 7011209 – 11/02/2018
- 7019109 – 19/02/2018
- 7030309 – 28/02/2018
- 7039109 – 08/03/2018
- 7046109 – 15/03/2018
“No other product in the Lotus Bakeries Spreads range is affected,” the company said in a statement. “If you have bought the above product do not eat it. Instead, return it to the retailer from where it was bought for a full refund.”
Mark Staniforth, commercial director of Lotus Bakeries UK, said: “Lotus Bakeries prides itself on making high-quality, tasty and safe products. We take product safety extremely seriously, so we are temporarily withdrawing this product from the marketplace.”
