With Mother’s Day less than one week away, bakers and retailers have begun stocking shelves and displays with seasonal treats.

Ridiculously Rich by Alana
The Apprentice 2016 winner Alana Spencer has launched a duo of limited-edition traybakes. The cakes have the base of the Ridiculously Rich by Alana Gooey Chocolate Brownie and are topped with ganache. The Rose Brownie is topped with a rose-flavoured white chocolate ganache and a drizzle of 70% Belgian chocolate, while the Violet Brownie is topped with a violet-flavoured white chocolate ganache and edible crystallised violets.
Konditor & Cook
Konditor & Cook has unveiled a range of cakes and biscuits for Mother’s Day, including a 5” Lemon & Elderflower Cake (rsp: £20) that comprises a lemon sponge soaked with elderflower cordial, sandwiched with lemon curd and covered with an elderflower cream cheese frosting. Also available are Love Mum Biscuits (rsp: £2.50 each), which are vanilla biscuits filled with raspberry jam and featuring a cut-out of the word ‘Mum’.
Biscuiteers’ Mother’s Day collection includes iced biscuits in tins, individual iced biscuits, and tea and biscuit combinations. The Mother’s Day Tea for Two Hamper contains 12 iced vanilla biscuits and a caddy of Biscuiteers’ Great British Tea (rsp: £57.95). Also available is the Tea for Two Luxe Biscuit Tin, which contains 12 iced vanilla biscuits (rsp: £40) and the Personalised Teapot Letterbox Biscuit (rsp: £11.95). For those who don’t like tea, there is the Gin and Tonic Letterbox Biscuit set (rsp: £20) the Flowers Biscuit Tin (rsp: £30) and a selection of Jolly Gingers to choose from (rsp: £6.95 each).
Joe’s Bakery in Bristol is selling Mothering Buns for Mother’s Day. The bun is sweet, lightly spiced, coated in thin fondant and dipped in hundreds and thousands. It was historically a Bristolian tradition, created to be an affordable gift for those in service to make and give to their mothers on Mother’s Day.
The collection from Hummingbird Bakery includes whole cakes, cupcakes and mini cupcakes, frosted in pastel colours and decorated with handmade fondant decorations including hearts, flowers and butterflies. The whole cakes have a fondant flower pot design with a Happy Mother’s Day message and are available in 6” or 8” options and in vanilla, chocolate or red velvet flavours (rsp: £32.95-£49.95). The cupcake options include the Mother’s Day Cupcake Gift Box (rsp: £19.95/six-pack), Mother’s Day Mini Cupcake Gift Box (rsp: £23.25/12-pack), Mother’s Day Made Without Gluten Cupcake Gift Box (rsp: £19.95/six-pack) and Mother’s Day Vegan Cupcake Gift Box (rsp: £19.95 six-pack).
London-based Primrose Bakery has created a selection of cakes for Mother’s Day. The range includes the Lemon & Rose Layer Cake, which comprises three layers of lemon sponge with rosewater buttercream, decorated with sugar flowers, rose petals and lemon wedges; the Rosette Cake, which is a vanilla layer cake decorated with vanilla piped roses; the Mother’s Day Gift Box, which includes 12 assorted chocolate and vanilla sponges, decorated with flowers, hearts and Mother’s Day messages; and the Heart Shaped Biscuit, iced with flowers, hearts and sprinkles.
Maître Choux is offering éclair pairs with ‘I love you Mummy!’ slogan toppings. The éclairs can be personalised with any flavour (rsp: £10.40/pair). Also available are Maître Choux Éclair Bouquets, which contain two or four éclairs presented with a selection of delicate spring flowers (rsp: £90/two éclairs or £125/four éclairs) or classic red roses (rsp: £120/two éclairs or £150/four éclairs).
Lola’s Cupcakes has unveiled a range of cupcakes, brownies and cakes for Mother’s Day. The cakes and cupcakes are available as a vanilla or chocolate sponge base, decorated with coloured buttercream icing and sugar decorations (rsp: £3.20/cupcake, £15+/cake). The brownies are also topped with seasonal decorations and come in boxes of six (rsp £16.50).
Betty’s Mother’s Day option – the Mother’s Day Cake (rsp: £12.95) – comprises a light almond sponge cake, sandwiched with raspberry preserve and buttercream and hand-decorated with royal icing daisies and a Happy Mother’s Day message.
