New York Bakery Co is entering the free-from market for the first time with a duo of gluten-free bagels.
The gluten-free, vegan-friendly bagels come in Original with Sourdough and Seeded variants and will be available in Tesco from 18 November at an rsp of £2.59 per four-pack. Each bagel is individually wrapped, which NYBC said would make them easier for consumers to store in the freezer.
Like regular bagels, NYBC’s gluten-free bagels are boiled and then baked to create what the company describes as a chewy texture and light crust.
“The total free-from category is going from strength to strength – and within the free-from morning goods category, bagels are star performers, reporting growth of more than 60%,” said Christina Honigfort, head of marketing at New York Bakery Co.
“We’ve trialled the recipes with both coeliacs and gluten-free lifestylers to ensure the recipes deliver on both flavour and texture, so we are thrilled to be introducing them to the category next month, helping to drive further growth in the ambient bakery free-from category.”
Bagels continue to grow in popularity. Earlier this month Village Bakery debuted a range of bagels for a major retailer, while NYBC and Warburtons went head to head in the battle of bagel ads earlier this year after the latter enrolled Hollywood star Robert De Niro to promote its NPD.
