The Riverside Bakery is launching what it believes is the UK’s first chilled gluten-free savoury pastry range.
Available from 8 April 2014 in Whole Foods Market, the No.G: Too Good To Be Gluten Free range includes pies, frittata, cheesecake, soufflés and a tart, with prices ranging from £2.69 to £3.99.
Based in Nottingham, the business spent over a year developing the range, investing over £250,000.
Sam Benjamin, spokesman for Riverside Bakery, said: “We’re delighted to be launching the UK’s first gluten-free pies in the chilled sector and that Coeliac UK has certified the brand gluten-free. Gluten-free is a rapidly growing sector and we spotted a gap in the market for high-quality and great-tasting products.”
Sarah Sleet, chief executive of Coeliac UK, said: “We are working closely with both the manufacturing and catering industries to help them deliver good-quality gluten-free choices for people with coeliac disease and are delighted that Riverside Bakery is recognising the importance of catering for this market through the launch of its new range of products.”
The Riverside Bakery currently supplies own-label chilled quiche, savoury tarts and flans to Sainsbury’s, Asda and Marks & Spencer.
