Union leaders have said ‘as of yet’ further strikes at 2 Sisters Food Group’s Gunstones bakery will still go ahead.
This follows yesterday’s talks between the Bakers Food and Allied Workers Union and management at the bakery, in a ‘last ditch’ attempt agree staff pay.
Another consultation between the parties will take place tomorrow (2 July), before a solid decision about the strike is made by the union.
The second stike is scheduled to happen on 16 and 17 of July.
This follows a previous 48-hour strike in mid-June. According to the union, management enforced a pay-freeze at the site, despite previous talks of pay rises. The bakery has said its priority was the future of those who work at the site.
John Higgins, full time BFAWU officer, told British Baker: “As of yet the strike will still go ahead. There are still some consultations going on, and we have another one on Thursday.
“We are always open to negotiations. We drew a line in the sand but there is only so far you can step back.”
2 Sisters has been contacted for comment, however nobody was available at the time.
