Former Marks & Spencer (M&S) clothing boss Jill McDonald is to become CEO of Costa Coffee.
Chief executive Dominic Paul is to leave the business next week and will be succeeded by McDonald, who was most recently managing director of clothing and home for M&S. Before that she was CEO of Halfords Group.
“I am excited to welcome Jill to the Costa family,” said Jennifer Mann, president of global ventures for The Coca-Cola Company, which acquired Costa from Whitbread last year.
“Her track record, depth of international experience and excitement about joining our business makes her an ideal leader to build on the great work of Dominic and the rest of the Costa team.”
McDonald also held senior roles at McDonald’s Corp from 2006 to 2015, including UK CEO and division president for North Europe. From 1990 to 2006, McDonald worked through a range of roles at British Airways, eventually becoming global head of marketing.
She will begin her role at Costa on 2 December, with Paul remaining with the business as a special advisor until February 2020 to support the transition.
McDonald said she had been a long-term fan of Costa.
“I look forward to joining the Costa leadership team and building on the great foundation and growth potential in the business,” she added.
