Costa Coffee has opened its 2,000th store worldwide with a new site in central Leeds.

Its new store, Leeds Briggate, is the first store outside London with the new look ‘Metropolitan’ design, which offers a more modern design and a greater focus on attracting city workers.

Since March 2011 Costa has opened 145 stores around the world, including stores in China and India, and is planning to open around 300 stores worldwide this year; it currently operates in 25 countries. Costa plans to operate 3,500 stores globally by 2015/16.

This comes after it was revealed that Costa is to categorise its stores into two segments to make them more in tune with their local environment.

According to Marketing Week, the c.1,300 chain is to use EPoS data and loyalty scheme data to split the stores between “recharge” and “retune” categories to suit consumers’ needs.
