An example of how bakers can benefit from quality logistics services can be seen in the way that Christian Salvesen handles the UK distribution for Belgian bakery firm Vandemoortele.
Christian Salvesen is one of Europe’s largest providers of logistics services, operating at over 200 sites in the UK, France, Benelux and Spain.
We operate the Vandemoortele contract from our Nuneaton distribution centre. The distribution centre manages the daily collections from Vandemoortele’s Worcester factory and also receives products from its continental manufacturing operations. Vandemoortele manufactures at various plants in Belgium and France. Its products include bake-off items such as breakfast rolls, butter minis and Danish pastries.
Over 150 different product lines are in stock at any one time, which are case-picked for distribution to various outlets in retail, wholesale and foodservice.
We handle anywhere between 250 and 300 pallet loads of products per week and Vandemoortele staff are able to see the status of their stock at any time on the internet.
We are also investing in a new in-cab system to enable electronic scanning of stock and for signatures to be taken on delivery. This provides a state-of-the-art, comprehensive tracking service, which gives real-time information on deliveries.
