Warburtons has expanded its Bistro range with Brioche Burger Buns.

The baker has unveiled the products in response to a growing trend for gourmet buns and premium goods — a market that it said has tripled over the past three years.

“We are always looking to develop new products that reflect the latest trends and respond to consumer demand,” said Darren Littler, innovation and product marketing director at Warburtons.

The new buns are pre-sliced and are retailing at Asda for £1.35.

The launch follows the launch of Warburtons’ Bistro Deli Buns, soft flatbread buns available in two flavours, last month.

Consumers are willing to pay up to £1.25 more for a burger if it comes in a gourmet bun, a study by Lantmännen Unibake revealed this year. The research, which took place with the help of burger review blogger Burger Lad, also found that 69% of a burger is bun.
