Pukka Pies is targeting the convenience market with a range of savoury pastries dedicated to on-the-go eating occasions.
Launching in January 2019, the range consists of handheld pies, pasties and sausage rolls that can be eaten hot or cold. The on-the-go range, which all have an rsp of £1.49, comprises:
- A large Sausage Roll
- A Meat & Potato Pasty
- A four-strong range of pies – Minced Beef & Onion; Chicken & Mushroom; Veggie Leek & Potato; and Steak.
Pukka Pies’ CEO Deborah Ewan, who took up the role in September 2017, said the range will allow the company to expand outside of pies and traditional evening meal occasions to tap into the growing food-to-go market.
“2018 has been a very successful year for Pukka Pies so far, with one million new shoppers added to our brand. The on the go sector is the natural place for us to grow, giving our customers an even wider choice of products in and out of the home,” added Ewan.
Retail analyst IGD has predicted significant growth in the food-to-go market over the next few years with value rising from £16.1bn in 2016 to £21.7bn by 2021.
In September, Pukka Pies expanded its offering as part of a £6m new product and marketing investment. This included adding two new variants to its chilled pies range as well as launching a range of frozen sharing pies.
