Finsbury Food Group has expanded its licensed cake range with Harry Potter-themed products.

Launching this month into Tesco, Morrisons and Sainsbury’s and at Asda in October, the range includes a celebration cake (rrp £12), a mixed case of gift cakes (rrp £4) and a 12-pack cupcake platter (rrp £7).

All the cakes in the range have been made with a focus on different Hogwarts houses, which Finsbury said would give consumers the choice to pick their favourite.

The celebration cake depicts the Hogwarts crest, the gift cakes are each topped with a different house’s mascot animal and the cupcake platter features the crests of each of the houses.

“Harry Potter is one of the most beloved franchises of all time and we’re delighted to have secured the opportunity to introduce it to the cake category,” said Jordan McCann, junior brand manager at Finsbury Food Group.

“We pride ourselves on finding innovative ways to bring the most popular films and TV shows to the cake aisle. We work incredibly hard to examine what consumers will most want to see on a cake range that links to their favourite films and know it’s about making the purchase a fun experience that you can share with friends and family.

“We’ve taken this into consideration across the full range of Harry Potter cakes and are sure that fans will appreciate the opportunity to enjoy a bit of Harry Potter magic through cakes!”

Finsbury chief executive officer John Duffy this month told British Baker that Harry Potter is among a number of movie licences the company expects to perform well.

“This is probably the strongest slate for some time,” he added. “Our cake licensing team is almost spoilt for choice – so many things to play with and so many designs to get behind.”

Finsbury Food Group recently extended its range of Mary Berry licensed cakes.
