Plan for Europain
Europain will take place over five days, March 6-10, at its usual home Parc des Expositions, Paris-Nord Villepinte in Halls 1-4. Hours are 9.30am to 6.30pm each day. Bakery and pastry form the largest sections of the show, with manufacturers, millers and equipment suppliers exhibiting. Furniss’ sales rise
Biscuit manufacturer Furniss of Cornwall has announced its most successful year of trading since it was rescued from administration by Proper Cornish Food Company in 2006, with turnover up to £2m from £1.2m in 2007, with plans to rise to £3m in 2010. Increasing tourism and ’staycations’ in Cornwall boosted sales, it said.

Food ’not priority’
Jack Matthews, chief executive of food and drink sector skills council Improve, said it was "disappointing" that the government’s latest report on training did not rate the food industry as a ’priority sector for growth and prosperity’. "The food industry has a vital role to play in leading UK plc out of recession; it cannot be relegated to secondary status on the skills agenda," he said.

SAMB set to dance
The Scottish Association of Master Bakers is holding its annual dinner dance on Saturday 6 February 2010, at the SAS Radisson Hotel in Glasgow. A three-course dinner will be followed by entertainment from The Soul Kings and a disco until the small hours. Tickets cost £45, and hotel rooms are priced £110.
