A national bakery training centre has been opened in Larbert, Scotland, in an attempt to preserve the craft and meet with increasing consumer demands.
The centre has been developed by The Scottish Association of Master Bakers (SAMB), with a grant from the Bakery Training Council, and offers specialised bakery courses to members and companies in the food and drink sector. SAMB president Joe McDonald hailed the opening, saying: "The skills base for bakery companies has been steadily eroding over many years. Many skilled workers are retiring and taking their skills with them."
Courses include confectionery, cake decoration, sugarcraft, advanced dough techniques and specialist product development.
