A new Upper Crust prefab wheel-in kiosk has gone on trial at London Bridge station, as parent SSP experiments with formats.

Upper Crust brand manager Britta Ashu told British Baker that the kiosk will be fully finished off-site, before being positioned just outside the station. The London Bridge pilot does not have a full kitchen; its stock is supplied from three Upper Crust units in other parts of London Bridge station.

Ashu commented: "It is a trial and we will see how it goes before deciding whether to open any further kiosks of this kind."

Other Upper Crust sandwich outlets were built on-site, she explained, apart from a couple of small "carts" at other stations.

Upper Crust will also be launching an Americano range on 4 July, including a chicken and ranch dressing baguette and a New Yorker, with pastrami, turkey and gherkins. The bake-off sandwich chain, which has 60 concessions in travel locations, has also introduced a £2 baguette range, in response to the recession.
