One lucky trainee baker will have the chance to scoop a top prize of training with Channel 4’s The Fabulous Baker Brothers Tom and Henry Herbert.
The winner of the Young Trainee category, new to this year’s National Association of Master Bakers’ (NAMB) bakery competition, will be rewarded with an all-expenses-paid training course with the Herbert Brothers at Hobbs House Bakery in Chipping Sodbury, Gloucestershire.
Gill Brooks-Lonican, chief executive of the NAMB, told British Baker: “Bakers don’t sing their own praises enough. They produce fresh, consistent, high-quality products on a daily basis, and many of our members take on trainees and impart their many years of experience and knowledge in training their employees.”
“The NAMB has an Education Fund, which has been funded by donations from bakers and, in the past, by the Ladies Section who worked tirelessly raising money to this fund. We use these funds to award young bakers with scholarships here in the UK and to work abroad to gain experience, which is why we have put the money towards this fantastic prize.”
The category, which is open to NAMB members only, can be entered by individuals who have been working as a baker for less than 18 months. It requires them to produce four cupcakes in two different varieties.
The winning trainee baker will be announced on stage at Bakers’ and Butchers’ Spring Fair, organised by British Baker and sister title Meat Trades Journal, taking place at the Three Counties Showground in Malvern, Worcestershire on Sunday 7 April.
Brooks-Lonican added: “I do hope our members will enter and show off the talents of their new trainees, and benefit from the prize by getting new ideas in the business and seeing the winner gain confidence, as well as experience.”
