Birds of Derby was among a number of Derbyshire food and drink firms who met with Prime Minister David Cameron and Chancellor George Osborne last week.
The BB75 retail bakery business attended a special event at the House of Commons last Tuesday (16 April) to celebrate Derbyshire Day.
Mike Holling, chairman and soon to be executive director of the National Association of Master Bakers, met with both Cameron and Osborne, and shared samples of Birds’ bakery goods, including pork pies.
The event, facilitated by Nigel Mills MP for Amber Valley and Heather Wheeler MP for South Derbyshire, and in collaboration with Derbyshire County Council, was held to promote local food and drink to some of the country’s top decision-makers.
Cameron said: “I was delighted to attend Derbyshire Food and Drinks Fair in the Houses of Parliament, which was an excellent way to raise the profile of the region and boost tourism. Derbyshire is home to many well-known brands, such as Chatsworth and Thorntons, which all provide quality local food and drink that I thoroughly enjoyed sampling.”
Osborne said: “Derbyshirefood is so strong. You’ve got so many businesses, from the Chatsworth Farm Shop right down to small local farmers. It’s great to see the county showcasing its finest here in theHouse of Commons.”
