Murdoch Allan has agreed a contract extension with Aldi Scotland, with six new jobs created at its bakery in Hatton, Aberdeenshire.

The family-run firm began supplying the national supermarket with bakery products such as Aberdeen Buttery, tattie scones, strawberry tarts, burger rolls, and all-butter shortbread rounds in the first half of 2023. Its latest deal sees it continue these listing and gain additional ones for its popular Pineapple Danish and Caramel Custard lines as well as own-label rolls for the discounter.

“It is an exciting time for the business with the extension of our partnership with Aldi and further deals to be announced in the coming months,” commented Paul Allan, managing director at Murdoch Allan. “This milestone reflects the strong relationships we have built with the retailer and highlights the quality and popularity of our baked goods.

“We are committed to providing customers across Scotland with our characterful baked goods and supplying additional products to Aldi will help us achieve this. We look forward to delighting Aldi’s customers with even more delicious goods, baked right here in Scotland,” he added.

Thousands of sweet and savoury baked goods from Murdoch Allan appear on shelves of supermarkets across Scotland, including Asda, Coop Local, Morrisons, and Sainsbury’s stores. The company employs a local workforce of more than 150 people across its Hatton bakery and six shops in Fraserburgh, Turriff, Hatton, Peterhead, Mintlaw, and Aberdeen – the latter location being the renowned Thains.

Last year, it expanded its production capacity with the acquisition of Teviotdale Bakery in Dundee, and later secured a Morrisons listing for its new Dundee Rolls.

Further contract extensions with retailers are said to be in the pipeline, and Murdoch Allan also investing in new product development.

“This year is all about pushing the business to the next level and it’s thanks to our amazing customers and suppliers that we’re able to explore these opportunities. We have lots of exciting projects lined up for the rest of the year that we can’t wait to share,” said MD Allan, whose parents Caroline and Paul founded the company in 1991.
