Baking Industry Awards winner Bachmanns Patisserie has opened its second shop in Weybridge.

After announcing news of its second outlet to British Baker back in July, the craft bakery business, based in Thames Ditton, Surrey, opened the doors of its latest outlet this month, selling 450 individual pastries during its first weekend.

The shop will be selling patisserie goods, gateaux and chocolates, alongside a small selection of hot savouries and speciality breads. The new site also features a café area and a workshop in which customers can see confectionery being made and decorated from scratch.

Chris Bachmann, owner of Bachmanns Patisserie, told British Baker: “When I took over the Thames Ditton shop from my father, Ernst, in 2007, we renewed all the equipment so we would have the capacity to supply a second shop until it became self-sufficient. But it was important to wait until the right freehold site came up.

“This shop is opposite a bus stop and car park and, at three stories with a flat above, is perfectly situated on Weybridge high street.”

Bachmann added that he would like to open a pastry school as part of the new establishment.

In 2011, Bachmanns, of which 95% of its business is within the retail sector, won the Asda Innovation Award and Bakels Speciality Bread Award for its rosemary and raisin bread at British Baker’s Baking Industry Awards (BIA), as well as a Great Taste Gold Award.

In this year’s BIA, Ernst Bachmann received a Lifetime Achievement Award, sponsored by Délifrance, alongside Gill Brooks-Lonican from the National Association of Master Bakers, John Bailey of Greggs and Eddie Spence MBE, The British Sugarcraft Guild.
