A Liverpool craft bakery business has used social media site Twitter to announce the news that the business is being put up for sale.
Satterthwaites, based on Coronation Road in Crosby, Liverpool, tweeted British Baker (@BritishBaker) earlier this week, saying: “Can you tell the folks that Satterthwaites is for sale?”
The family-run bakery, which operates seven retail sites and has been in business for more than 100 years, said online from its @Satterthwaites Twitter account that it was advised to seek a buyer and was looking for a bakery entrepreneur who could uphold its standards.
The firm added that the ideal buyer would be able to build on what Satterthwaites has with creativity and drive, as well as capital investment and a vision that values quality.
Another tweet from the business’ online platform, believed to have come from Roger Wilson, Satterthwaites’ owner, read: “A word of explanation. I’ve been advised that I must sell or restructure because of declining footfall. I’m too old to meet these challenges.”
The company, which produces bread, pork pies, wedding and corporate cakes, cupcakes, buffets and platters, currently employs 70 members of staff. Its first shop opened on King Street in Southport in 1910.
