Greggs has launched a meal deal that goes live when the weather is ideal for a picnic.
The retailer is sending out localised alerts on social media and through its loyalty app when the conditions are right for al fresco lunch – and when customers can make use of the new Quicknic offer.
Throughout August, the deal will allow customers to grab any cold baguette and a savoury roll from £4.75 between 11am and 4pm.
Greggs claims it has managed to master the unpredictable British weather and determine the perfect picnic conditions by using a ‘simple’ formula that weighs up lunchtime temperature, cloud cover, rain, pollen and Britain’s appetite for eating outdoors.

When a region scores 24 or more, Greggs’ Forecasting Office declares a Quicknic Day and the deal is made available in local stores.
“Nobody has ever put mathematicians, scientists and sausage roll makers together to create a lunch deal before, but that’s exactly what we’ve done,” said Greggs customer and marketing director Zoe Harris. “It may be the most scientifically advanced sausage roll and baguette deal ever created.”
The baguettes included in the deal are roast chicken, ham & cheese, mature cheddar cheese salad, Mexican chicken, roast chicken & bacon club, tandoori chicken and tuna crunch. These can be paired with a sausage roll, vegan roll or chicken roll.

Greggs has also revealed the findings of new research that found the average Brit has four lunches a week sat at their desk, with two thirds stating they regularly regret sitting in their office for lunch when it’s sunny outside.
And 57% of Brits say they would support a mandatory ‘Sunshine Law’ ensuring people spend their lunch break outside in hot and sunny weather, while almost three quarters (73%) said a discounted meal deal on locally declared good-weather days would make them leave their desk for lunch.
