Scottish firm Harry Gow Bakery is taking its products beyond the Highlands for the first time having secured a listing with Asda for a trio of new sharing cakes.
The family-owned business has launched a new sharing cake range in 50 of the retailer’s stores across Scotland, marking one of the biggest retail milestones in the company’s history.
The range comprises three slices which are priced at £4.25 each. They are:
- Vanilla Raspberry Slice – a Harry Gow favourite, made with soft vanilla sponge, raspberry jam and sweet icing which many customers will recognise as the classic Birthday Slice style cake
- Lemon Slice – a light sponge cake with a bright lemon flavour and sweet icing, described as ’fresh and zesty’
- Butterscotch Slice – a rich, sweet sponge cake with a proper butterscotch flavour, made to feel indulgent and nostalgic.
Like other products in the bakery’s range, the new cakes are made from scratch, using quality ingredients and the same approach that has shaped the family bakery for generations, the firm said.
David Gow, managing director at Harry Gow Bakery, said customers have been asking for years when they would be able to buy its products outside of the Highlands, but admitted that “the challenge was finding the right opportunity to take Harry Gow further”.
“We’ve always believed that if we put our name on something, it has to be done properly. That means no pre-mix, we still bake from scratch, we still care about the ingredients, and we still believe cake should taste like it came from a bakery, not a production line,” Gow explained.
“Launching our new Sharing Cake Range with Asda Scotland is a huge moment for our family business. It means more people across Scotland can enjoy a taste of Harry Gow, while we continue doing things the way we always have.”
The move comes shortly after the Inverness-based business was crowned Scottish Baker of the Year 2026, beating stiff competition from the likes of Company Bakery, WeeCook and Pars Foods. It was also featured in a recent interactive trail of Scottish bakeries by trade body Scottish Bakers.
