The handcrafted game and poultry pie from Doncaster-based the Topping Pie Company has won a Yorkshire Taste Award.
Topping Pie Co triumphed with its Game & Poultry Pie in the Best Ready to Eat category at this year’s Taste Awards.
The awards, which are sponsored by Asda, attracted more than 340 product entries across 24 categories from 70 Yorkshire businesses.
Topping’s game and poultry speciality pie is made to a family recipe and created by Maggie Topping. It features seasonal game sandwiched between layers of prime pork, cranberries and chicken liver pate.
Judged over four days on appearance, taste and texture by an expert panel of foodies, chefs, journalists, category buyers, retailers, producers and food bloggers, the game pie was applauded for qualities which included “a great crunch and bite to the pastry”.
The bakery’s Queen’s Pie, created to commemorate the Queen’s 90th birthday, was also shortlisted in the category. The Queen’s Pie was presented to Her Majesty on 20 April of this year.
Matthew Topping, sales director, the Topping Pie Company said: “We are delighted to pick up another award for our game pie, which is no stranger to accolades having been awarded many Great Taste Awards over the years.”
