Abel & Cole has unveiled what it claims to be the UK’s first widely available organic bread containing 30 types of plants.

Known as 30 Plants Diversity Bread, the sourdough loaf is packed with 30 plants and seeds formulated specifically to nourish the gut microbiome and support biodiverse, regenerative farming.

It is described as having a ‘deep, layered flavour profile’, with subtle sweetness from the grains balanced by gentle sourdough acidity and delicate botanical notes. Priced at £5.75, it is available for home delivery from the organic specialist’s website.

At its base is Diversity Flour which comprises YQ Wheat, black wheat, spelt, rye, barley, naked oats, split peas, lentils, buckwheat, linseed, poppy seeds, nettle, cornflower, hibiscus, rose, mushroom. Seeds also feature in the ingredients list as well as einkorn and emmer flours (see full list below).

Dr Vanessa Kimbell

The loaf was developed in collaboration with Dr Vanessa Kimbell – a specialist in the gut microbiome, nutrigenetics, and bread, with a doctorate in Baking as Lifestyle Medicine and decades of baking expertise.

Each loaf is slowly fermented and hand-finished by Seven Seeded Bakery, a Hertfordshire-based bakery which is in the running for four trophies at the Baking Industry Awards 2026, including Baker of the Year and Craft Bakery Business of the Year. Seven Seeded make several loaves for Abel & Cole, including Ancient Grain Einkorn Sourdough, Wildfarmed Country Sourdough, and a Milk & Honey Sourdough. Other bakers the retailer works with includes Authentic Bread Company, Modern Baker, Biona, The Celtic Bakers, Hobbs House Bakery, and free-from specialist Good Grain Bakery.

Abel & Cole said the launch represents an ‘exciting shift’ from what bread can be, turning a household staple into a ‘simple, accessible way to support gut health daily without anyone having to change their routine’. The retailer added that it reflects its ongoing commitment in helping shoppers move away from ultra-processed food.

“This was never just about bread. The magic is in uncompromising integrity, connection and authenticity — in food that gives back to the soil and the planet, not just to us,” said Dr Kimbell.

“I can say with confidence that every slice carries decades of knowledge and values, and with them a feeling — a sense of what is right — now brought to our tables thanks to the incredible teams of farmers, millers and bakers, and the distribution by Abel & Cole. All in our daily bread.”
