Bakers across the country will be taking part in The Real Bread Campaign’s annual celebration of genuine sourdough.
Returning for its seventh year, Sourdough September highlights “the alchemy of crafting flour, water and salt into bread”.
Bakers are encouraged to share their sourdough and sourdough-related activities using #SourdoughSeptember.
New for 2019, The Real Bread Campaign is encouraging novices to post their #sourdoughnewbie pics, and everyone to share their #sourdoughsandwich shots.
“At its simplest, genuine sourdough is made using just three ingredients,” stated the campaign.
“From these, novice home bakers and true artisans alike can nurture the yeasts and bacteria naturally present in flour to foster a thriving sourdough starter culture. It’s this microbial magic that, given sufficient time, makes dough rise.”
Among the activities already planned are:
- One Mile Bakery, Hale: Bread & Beer event exploring the long-standing relationship between brewers and bakers
- Ma Baker, Fulham: Introduction to sourdough class
- The Wholesome Weigh, Hitchin: An evening with Jo Bottrill of Jo’s Loaves, featuring her insights into real bread
- Hive Café, Roehampton Ln, London: Sourdough tasting and starter giveaway by Eastsheen Microbakery.
