London-based bakery brand Lola’s Cupcakes has launched a new collection of cakes and cupcakes inspired by six of Disney’s most iconic animation movies.
The range, which features items decorated in Frozen, Moana, Toy Story, Cars, Lilo & Stitch, and The Lion King themes, is being sold at Lola’s 28 retail sites nationwide as well as via online order for home delivery within Greater London.
Cakes are available in three different sizes – medium (rsp: £65), tall (£95), and two-tier (£180) – with a choice of either classic vanilla sponge with vanilla buttercream and raspberry compote, or rich chocolate sponge with smooth chocolate buttercream. Cupcakes, meanwhile, come in boxes of six (£30) comprising a mix of vanilla sponge and chocolate sponge, each topped with vanilla buttercream.
Entertainment conglomerate Disney already has an existing brand licencing partnership with Finsbury Food Group, which creates the likes of the Moana Celebration Cake and the Disney Princess Cake.
The latest product range launch come at a time when Sir Harry Solomon is exploring the sale of his stake in the firm – reported to be up to half of its total shares. Solomon is the founder of Premier Foods, which manufactures the Mr Kipling and Cadbury cakes brands.
Lola’s Cupcakes was founded in 2006 by friends Victoria Jossel and Romy Lewis. The pair sold the business in 2011 to Millie’s Cookies founder Mario Budwig and his son Asher, who continues to serve as managing director.
Asher Budwig confirmed to British Baker that “Sir Harry” was looking to offload his stock. “He is approaching retirement (and is in his late 80s) and has given us his wonderful support and guidance since buying and growing Lola’s to what it is today,” said the MD, adding “The other shareholders and directors remain fully committed to running and growing the business with the amazing team.”
Lola’s has most recently opened new sites at Paddington and Clapham Junction train stations, following on from one at South Kensington tube station earlier in the year, as it maintains a focus on travel hub locations.
