Pret A Manger has announced that the monthly fee for its Club Pret subscription service will remain at £5.

The high street chain had previously planned to double the fee to £10 from 31 March 2025, but has now informed subscribers that the price wont change for the deal which offers 50% off on up to five barista made drinks per day.

“At Pret, we believe in offering high-quality, organic coffee and Barista-made drinks at fantastic value,” commented a company spokesperson.

Pret’s coffee subscription was first introduced in September 2020 to help drive loyalty and sales while pandemic restrictions were in place. It offered up to five drinks per day for £20 per month, which was increased to £25 in 2022.

The plan was rebranded as ‘Club Pret’ in April 2023 and expanded to include a 20% discount on all food and snacks, with the monthly fee upped to £30.

Last September, and with Pret admitting it had ‘never really got comfortable with’ the food discount, these benefits were replaced by a ‘new and simpler’ offer for just £5 per month.

It came at a time when the company reported a 10% leap in H1 revenue, reaching £569m for the first six months of the year. The 2023 full accounts for Pret reported global sales totalling £1.1bn, marking a doubling of business size within the past five years.

London-headquartered Pret has unveiled the latest in its international expansion with the opening of its first shop in South Africa this week, located at Johannesburg’s Melrose Arch precinct. It now operates more than 700 stores worldwide in 20 markets including the UK, Ireland, the US, Hong Kong, France, UAE, Kuwait, India, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Portugal, Belgium, Singapore, Germany, Canada, Italy, Greece, Spain, and Qatar.

Despite Pret stripping down its own plan, other coffee shop brands are introducing new premium subscription services to help drive footfall. Cotswolds-based bakery and tearooms Huffkins unveiled its brand new Coffee Club last year at £30 per month and at the end of 2024, London fast-food chain Yolk launched its BrewClub with three membership tiers ranging from free to £40 per month.
