Biscuit and cakes supplier The Pudding Compartment is ramping up capacity at its manufacturing unit.

The Flintshire-based business said it is preparing to double its current turnover of £1.5m and increase its number of employees from 20 to 30 after securing a £100k loan to improve its facilities.

It is to increase capacity at its 10,000 sq ft manufacturing unit on Manor Industrial Estate in Flint with the creation of new office and storage space. It is also making the production floor space larger to accommodate the installation of a new automated production line.

Founded in 2007 by Steve West, The Pudding Compartment supplies the travel, foodservice, and business-to-business sectors with cookies, biscuits, cakes and traybakes. It also produces a branded range of sweet treats under the Creative Bake Co brand.

The £100k investment has been made by the Development Bank of Wales through the Welsh government-backed Wales Flexible Investment Fund. The makes finance from £25,000 to £10m available to Welsh businesses with terms of up to 15 years.

“We first had support from the Development Bank in June 2020 with a loan from the Covid-19 Wales Business Loan Scheme,” said West.

“With the pandemic now behind us, our focus is now on transforming the business with the latest digital technology and additional manufacturing capacity to meet the growing demand for our products.”

He added that he was confident the new technology would help the business improve its operational efficiency.
