Bakeries, hotels and bars are among businesses whipping up tennis-inspired treats to get the nation into the swing of Wimbledon fortnight, which starts today [Monday, 2 July].

In honour of the Championships, we round up some of their creations.

Konditor & Cook – Limited-edition Wimbledon Cork Cake

Bringing a whole new meaning to the term ‘new balls please’, Konditor & Cook has served up Curly Whirly Cork sponges designed to look like tennis balls. Made with melted Belgian dark chocolate, vanilla bean cream cheese and tinted sugar, the cute bakes are being sold individually for £1.50 or in boxes of nine for £12 over the next two weeks.

The Arch London – Wimbledon Afternoon Tea

The Arch has pulled out all the aces in the dessert department with a Gingerbread Tennis Racket, Centre Court Almond Financier Cake, Orange & Lemon Mousse Tennis Ball, And Champion’s Chocolate Cupcake featuring in its afternoon tea line-up. Classic Pimm’s and cucumber jelly and strawberries & cream also appear on the menu alongside warm baked scones and freshly made sandwiches with a variety of breads including malted granary, toasted sourdough, white and tomato. The package starts from £29.95.

Paul – Limited-edition Tennis Choux and Grand Slam Lemon Tartlet

The artisan bakery and patisserie, which has an outlet in Wimbledon Village, is on point with its offering. Its Tennis Choux pastry, which has a fresh strawberry and sweet crème pâtissière filling, is available for £3.95, while its Grand Slam Lemon Tartlet, a tennis ball-styled sweet shortcrust pastry case with lemon cream, has an rsp of £3.20.

The Petersham Hotel, Richmond – Wimbledon Afternoon Tea

Mini mango ‘tennis ball’ cheesecakes, white chocolate and strawberry tartlets and Pimm’s jelly and cucumber foam are among the sweet treats that feature on the Petersham’s Wimbledon afternoon tea menu. The selection - which costs £27.50 Monday to Friday and £29.50 Saturday to Sunday - also includes finger sandwiches, scones and patisserie options including Petersham Victoria sponge.

The Refinery – Pimm’s-themed limited-edition Afternoon Tea

The Refinery bars in Bankside, London and Spinningsfield, Manchester, have joined forces with official Wimbledon supplier Pimm’s to host screenings of the Championships and serve a limited-edition afternoon tea. Choices include Pimm’s-infused jam and clotted cream scones (£4.95), waffles with Pimm’s-soaked strawberries (£6.50) and Pimm’s Eton Mess (£7.95).
