Border Biscuits, the Lanarkshire-based biscuit producer, is to build a second production line at its Lanark facility.
The line is being supported by a seven-figure funding package from Clydesdale Bank and will help the business enhance production capacity beyond current levels, which include 24 million per year of its best-selling product, the Dark Chocolate Gingers.
Mark Bruce, UK sales and marketing director at Border Biscuits, said: “Our latest funding package from Clydesdale Bank will allow us to significantly expand our operations and grow UK and international sales.”
Border Biscuits supplies products to major supermarkets, including the Big Four of Tesco, Sainsbury’s Morrisons and Asda, as well as independent retailers across the UK and abroad. It also supplies wholesale and foodservice clients including Booker and Bidvest Foodservice and, in its last financial year, produced a turnover of £14.5m.
This January, Border Biscuits launched its #GingerJanuary campaign for a second time, asking the public to post pictures of themselves celebrating the event on Facebook and Twitter. Every Monday, the company is giving away themed hessian bags filled with the company’s ginger biscuit range to reward the best picture.
