Rapidly growing coffee shop chain Coffee#1 saw sales grow by 55% last year as it continued to open new outlets.
The company, which was bought by Welsh brewery SA Brain in 2011 and is at number 30 in the BB75 tracker of top bakery retailers, coffee shops and sandwich bars, has 38 stores in south Wales and the south west of England.
It is on track to reach 50 outlets by 2015 with a further 50 outlets in the five years after that.
Scott Waddington, chief executive, said: “The business complements what we do. At the end of the day, it is serving food and beverages to customers, which is what we do in our pubs. We always said getting to 50 stores was our first major milestone. We believe we’ll do that by the mid-point of next year. And then we’ll continue to roll out at 10 stores a year which will obviously get us to around 100 in a further five years’ time.”
Brains said its group turnover for the year to October 2013 was £122.2m, up £1.4m or 1.2% on the previous year. According to the BB75 tracker, published by British Baker, annual turnover for the coffee business stood at around £11m.
