Premier Foods is tapping the flamingo trend with the launch of limited-edition Mr Kipling Flamingo Slices.
Rolling out from 2 July, the cakes feature a tropical sponge with pink and yellow icing. They are available for 18 weeks in snack-packs of six cakes, with an rsp of £1.
The Flamingo Slices come a few months after Mr Kipling unveiled Unicorn Slices, which Premier Foods said has amassed sales of £1.2m since hitting shelves in February.
“Following the success of the Mr Kipling Unicorn Slices, we are confident the new Flamingo Slices will be a hit,” said Lucy Bailey, marketing controller at Premier Foods.
“With everything from pool floats to tableware, flamingos are the fashionable accessory this summer and we’re already seeing a buzz on social media. It makes perfect sense for us to capitalise on this trend and help drive category growth through exciting new flavours.”
While unicorns still dominate the cake scene, flamingos are gaining popularity, with the launch of celebration cakes from Asda and Tesco featuring the birds.
Notably, Sainsbury’s has also rolled out Flamingo Cake Slices that feature sponge cake with vanilla-flavour filling and decorated in pink and white icing, priced at £1 for six slices.
